Research on Hu Shi's Academic Thoughts

Abstract

Hu Shi's position as a poet in the history of China literature, Chang Shi Ji's pivotal role in the history of modern literature in China and Hu Shi's powerful political meaning in the new culture movement all have unique and important positions in their respective fields. Hu Shi, an academic celebrity and educator, was influenced by his family and school education, and gradually formed a set of his own academic thoughts since childhood. He believes that the spirit of doubt, criticism, freedom, self-denial and science must be cultivated and persisted in the process of academic research, and at the same time, scientific academic research methods should be applied. First, we should correctly choose the starting point of study, and choose disciplines and majors according to our learning interests and personal endowments. It is very beneficial to the research of modern literature to correctly apply the Marxist viewpoint, analyze and evaluate it historically and concretely, and affirm the progressive role played by Chang Shi Ji in the May 4th New Literature Movement. Taking Chang Shi Ji as an example, this paper discusses the research of Hu Shi's academic thought.
