Abstract

The DSP + FPGA architecture has been widely used in embedded systems, and the high-speed and real-time communication method between DSP and FPGA is the key point of this architecture. The paper describes the typical high-speed communication interfaces including EMIF(External Memory Interface), uPP(Universal Parallel Port), RapidIO (Serial Rapidio, SRIO) and PCIe (PCI Express), focuses on the schemes of using these interfaces to realize high-speed communication between DSP and FPGA. The speed and performance of these communication interfaces are analyzed in the research, meanwhile, it expounds the application occasions of each scheme. Finally, according to the contrasting results, this paper proposes a kind of uPP, RapidIO and PCIe combining to achieve highspeed serial and parallel mixed communications between DSP and FPGA as the core of embedded system solutions. New scheme greatly reduces the overhead of data transmission, improves the communication speed and performance of system based on DSP + FPGA architecture.
