Abstract

With the development of research, asymmetric winding motors (AWM) have been found taking advantage of lower cogging torque and higher torque density in some cases. In this paper, excellent characteristics of fractional slot motor with asymmetric concentrated winding are revealed by combining theoretical derivation and simulation computation. In addition, some correlation coefficients which represent the adverse effects of AWM are introduced, and provide references for the comprehensive design of AWM. Moreover, the 36-pole three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) is taken as an example to compare the design of AWM and conventional motor. The feasibility of AWM scheme and its advantages in cogging torque and torque density are verified by the finite element modeling.
