Abstract

Landfill leachate was treated by Fenton oxidation process on granule activated carbon (GAC) carrying Fe~ion under the condition of microwave. Influence of microwave on treatment effect was discussed according to the removal rates of COD and NH 3 -N. The mechanism of microwave treatment was analyzed further through comparative experiment between microwave and conventional heating method. Test results and analysis indicate that microwave can accelerate the oxidation reaction and can promote colloidal flocculate in the leachate. The microwave treating time is a main factor influencing treatment effect. Oxidation is a chief reason of COD reduction in the landfill leachate. But the removal rate of NH 3 -N is influenced by flocculation of colloidal in the leachate and Fe~ion in the solution.
