Abstract

Change is a theme which must dominate any assessment of the recent development of research in the field of erosion and landscape evolution and the future directions of such research. The theme of change must also be seen as having several different facets. These include changing priorities and information needs, changes in the approaches and techniques/methods used, and the challenges associated with the need to deal with a changing environment, and in some situations a rapidly changing environment. The perspective provided by this lecture necessarily draws heavily on a career based in Europe and more specifically the UK, but it will attempt to provide a broader view linked to international activity in the field.
