Abstract

This research uses the natatorium as the research object. It uses CFD simulation method to analyze three different operating modes of retractable roof models. Each operating mode is divided into five models using different opening positions and opening area ratios for simulation and comparative analysis. And the research uses apparent temperature as comfort standards to evaluate the indoor environment of each model. These simulations confirmed that different opening positions and opening area ratios of the retractable roof would affect internal environment of the natatorium. In conclusion, if opening position of the building has only one orientation and it is above, indoor air velocity could be 0.06 m/s higher than that of the side opening. In the same opening area ratio of three operating modes, that integrated roof and external wall group represent the best indoor environment. When a retractable roof and external wall open simultaneously, the natatorium’s indoor environment can reach a comfortable level without air conditioning. Once the opening area is up to 37.8%, air conditioning is not needed to regulate internal environment temperature.
