Abstract

With the saturation of urban capacity in the old city of Lanzhou, the impetus of the Western Development, reinforcement of Lanzhou's central city's radiating effect, and the drive for transformational development of old industrial cities, the State Council officially approved the establishment of Lanzhou New Area as a national-level new area. This paper focuses on the construction and development issues of Gobi new cities, specifically addressing the case of Lanzhou New Area, while proposing corresponding countermeasures. Through analyzing the relationship between Lanzhou New Area and neighboring cities, as well as the geographical environment, the study identifies key issues hindering the new area's development, including inadequate infrastructure, environmental pressures, and limited radiating scope. In response, the paper presents a series of practical strategies and recommendations aimed at promoting the sustainable development of Gobi new cities represented by Lanzhou New Area.
