Abstract

System Virtualization techniques are getting popular and gaining significant interest in the enterprise and personal computing spaces. However, there are very few dependability studies on virtual computing system in a single platform. The M/M/n/k model with rejuvenation of virtual computing system in the condition of churn is presented by taking advantage of Stochastic Petri nets (SPN). Based on this model, it enables us to analyze the structure of nets, and the dependability parameters of system which people pay attention to can be obtained easily. As a key-component, the repairing assurance for virtual machine monitor (VMM) is taken into account when modeling virtual computing system. The rejuvenation technology is made use of to recover the software failure of system. The simulation results show that the dependability of system will increase at large after the repairing assurance is taken into account. The throughput of virtual computing system will increase largely after the rejuvenation technology is taken advantage of when the virtual machine (VM) fails.
