Abstract

Under the action of long-term weathering, argillaceous siltstone becomes easier to be disintegrated and softened. In the meanwhile, the argillaceous interlayer is produced during the process of long-term weathering, which leads to the gradual decrease of its physical and mechanical properties. Field investigation and analysis reveal that poor rock and soil structure, slope surface exposure, slope toe excavation, and rain erosion are the main reasons for the deformation and instability of muddy siltstone soil slope. The automatic monitoring system shows that the continuous intensive heavy rainfall and rainwater erosion mainly account for the reinforcement deformation of slope and retaining structure. Continuous rainfall softens the rock and soil mass of the slope and reduces the strength of the mud interlayer, resulting to further deformation of the slope. Last but not the least, the anti-slide retaining wall and anchor bolt support can effectively control slope deformation to a certain extent.
