Abstract

The spiral line deviation of helical gear plays a great influence on contact accuracy, and it can degrade the performance and shorten the service life of the large-scale helical gear so it is necessary to inspect the spiral line deviation to achieve quality control for helical gear. Although on-machine measurement of lead error with three-dimensional orthogonal scanning probe which satisfies the requirements of spatial measuring dimensionality and has rapid scanning function has the characteristics of good accuracy and high efficiency, there are some problems of large amount of data including such measurement noise as roughness data and vibration noise resulted from machine tools in such measurement methods. The macro shape profile of helical gear extracted by using wavelet transform is used to analyze the machined error, and then the completed and detailed spiral line deviation information is obtained to provide the reference for on-line helical gear machined error compensation. The spiral line error on-machine experiment of helical gear has been carried out on a five-axis CNC forming grinding machine. The results show that the method could assess and check lead error accurately and present the position and profile of lead error finely as well as good possessing repeatability.
