Abstract
It is impossible to obtain the detailed distribution of the potential and current density of the ship hull during the actual measurement because of the complex form of the underwater electric field source and the numerous influencing parameters. Therefore, it is difficult to accurately and completely grasp the parameters of the field source. According to the characteristics of field source and the distribution of electric field in sea water, the complex field source is simplified and abstracted into dipole and quadrupole sources commonly used in electromagnetic, and the characterization of different types of electric field sources for ships is completed
