Abstract
Starting from the linear shallow-water equations and using Arakawa A-E and Z grids, a study is made of inertia-gravitational and Rossby waves in the six grids from the perspectives of frequency and group velocity. Results indicate that grids C, Z, and E thereof give smaller distortion compared to the others.
