Abstract

In this study, in consideration for water quality and quantity factors, groundwater resources assessment indicators were presented, the evaluation grade classification and standards were developed. In order to deal with fuzziness, conflict and uncertainty existing in the process of groundwater resources evaluation, a new assessment model — the fuzzy matter-element model is proposed based on the theory of improved membership degree, the character of groundwater resources assessment and the context of multiple attribute assessment standard. Improved degree of membership function is constructed according to the different assessment standard grades. Regarding groundwater resources assessment grade as matter-element, the compound fuzzy matter-element is created according to the fuzzy index value, the comprehensive assessment grade is established by Hamming approach degree between the calculating matter-element and the ideal matter-element. The model was applied to groundwater resources assessment in five typical cities in Haihe River Basin in China. The results show that groundwater resources in Shijiazhuang City are good, however those in the other areas are very bad, which is consistent with the actual status in Haihe River Basin. The application shows that the model derived here is effective and practical.
