Abstract

Wall cracks is the most commonly seen wall quality issue in the construction of industrial and civil architectures. The areas where cracks occur are also extensive, including the connection parts of masonry infill walls, concrete beams and columns. This article is based on the case study of lightweight wall panels utilization in the interior wall project of the Modern Art Design Teaching and Training Center Building of Shanghai Art & Design Academy. In view of cracks commonly experienced in the new wall materials, projects should fully consider various elements including joint stress, construction operation, putty treatment, construction environment, design and other factors, analyze the root cause, and get repair in place (strengthen the mortar joint, strictly follow the construction operation procedures, and strengthen the lightweight wall panel Installation). It is also pointed out that flexible treatment is an effective method for wall repair and damage prevention, which can effectively control the cracks at the joints of the lightweight wallboard and the cracks on the board surface.
