Abstract

This study proposes a numerical analysis model that considers volumetric contact in cellular solid such as metal foam. Volumetric contact refers to contact with uneven or curved surfaces. The proposed analytical model is based on a motion analysis method of multibody system with contact and yield using linear complementarity problem. The current analytical method assumes surface contact. In order to consider volumetric contact, a discrete analytical model is proposed. In addition, the tearing phenomenon of cells observed in indentation tests is used to express the yield force by introducing tearing energy in addition to the stress required for compression. Numerical analysis was performed on the proposed analytical model. Numerical analysis was performed assuming the case of carbon steel crashing on a portion of aluminum foam so that deformation occurs in the unevenness. The volumetric contact is evaluated from the analysis results of time history of plastic strain and contact force.
