Abstract

A 220GHz relativistic backward wave oscillator(RBWO) is studied in this paper. This model consists of four parts, including slow wave structure(SWS), the cathode, the resonant reflector and the output waveguide. The single-grating rectangular waveguide is selected as the SWS. Through dispersion characteristics of the SWS, and the transmission characteristics of the resonant reflector and the output structure, the basic dimensions of the RWBO are determined. Then by means of particle-in-cell simulation, a stable output power of 18MW at 220GHz is obtained.
