Abstract
The purpose of the study: to determine the place of Y. Stefanyk’s scientific work in Ukrainian literary, criticism and to find out the significance of his contribution in the understanding of the literary process in Ukraine in the twentieth century, the study of life and work of V. Stefanyk. Research methods: comparative-historical, biographical, descriptive, aesthetically-functional, comparatively-typological method, analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, method of collecting, selecting and generalizing information. The scientific novelty of the study is to demonstrate a new, independent view of the V. Stefanyk. Presentation, analysis and the study of V. Stefanyk creativity within the literary studies. Conclusions. The heroes of V. Stefanyk's works were fully formed people. Often the heroes of V. Stefanyk's works were residents of the village of Rusov, villagers, acquaintances of the writer, relatives and friends. The first part presents the real heroes of V. Stefanyk's creative work before the war. In the second part, Y. Stefanyk characterizes the heroes of works written during the war and the postwar period. The third part describes the heroes of the Fireplace Cross. The fourth part shows the heroes of the story Basarabe. Y. Stefanyk's work on V. Stefanyk's characters allows us to find out the background to writing many short stories, to establish a connection with reality
