Abstract

ABSTRACT The application of data glove in virtual assembly environment has been introduced from six aspects in this paper. Theyare the composition of the virtual assembly interaction environment based on data glove, 5DT data glove 5 and itsadjusting, the virtual hands modeling, six-degree-of-freedom (6DOF) electromagnetic tracking instrument and thepositioning of virtual hand, the movement of virtual hand, and the interaction operation based on data glove. Theengineering test combining the maintenance training of the engine has declared that data glove is a sort of efficient and natural interaction means on virtual assembly environment.Keywords: Virtual assembly, data glove, Human computer interaction, gesture mapping 1. INTRODUCTION The hand is considered a very versatile tool in both the physical and the virtual world. Therefore, a data glove used fortracking hand and fmger is a popular VR input device. Simple hand gesture recognition using data gloves has beenimplemented to control navigation in virtual environment, eliminating the need physical walk. Haptic feedback, thesense of touch and resistance can also be provided by data glove. Vibrating pins or inflatable air pockets built into aglove can provided the hand with a sense of touch when a virtual component, or the graphic equivalent or a real-worldcomponent is touched.
