Abstract
In large-scale RFID applications, RFID middleware has played a very important role. Most popular RFID middleware serves as RFID reader manager, data processing center, data distribution and subscription server, which means all work is done by one server. When there are a large number of readers, the only way to increase processing capacity is to add more servers. Since every server is an independent system, applications need to change at the same time in order to be adapted to more servers. In this paper, we bring forward a new middleware architecture based on SOA (Service Oriented Architecture). In this architecture, publishing of all RFID events, subscriptions and user authentication are completed by an independent Web Server which is named Publish/Subscribe Web Server. Reader management, data processing, and events generating &delivering are completed by RFID Data Server. The number of RFID Data Server is decided in view of system requirements, while the number of Publish/Subscribe Server is only one. In this architecture, we can increase or decrease the number of RFID Data Server to increase or decrease data processing capacity, without having to change application program interfaces, which enhances the flexibility of middleware.
