Abstract

This paper reports the research of post-assembly magnetization of large-power surface-mounted permanent magnet machines (SPMSM). The method of using integrated magnetizing winding wound around the surface of permanent magnet (PM) is utilized. The design procedure and design criteria for post-assembly magnetization scheme are proposed. The difference of magnetization methods for motors of different power levels is studied. The analytical calculation model and finite element analysis (FEA) model are established to calculate the magnetizing current and magnetizing field. Two SPMSMs of 50 kW and 900 kW are selected as prototypes. Corresponding magnetization schemes are designed. Simulation results show that the motors can be fully magnetized by the designed magnetization schemes.
