Abstract

Objective To explore the satisfaction and effect of different perianal nursing methods on hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) patients. Methods 100 cases of patients who accepted HSCT in our hospital from January 2009 to February 2010 were selected as the experimental group, and 62 cases of patients who accepted HSCT from February 2006 to February 2008 were selected as the control group. Patients of the experimental group lived in the new laminar flow clean chambers with automatic tank-free toilets and were applied with improved perianal nursing care. Patient satisfaction and the rate of perianal infection of the two groups were compared. Results Patient satisfaction of the experimental group was above 95%. There was no statistical difference in the rate of perianal infection between the two groups(P >0. 05). Conclusions Automatic tank-free toilets together with improved perianal nursing care meet the humanistic needs of patients, improve patient satisfaction, prevent perianal infection efficiently, and enhance the comfort level of the patients and security of nursing as well. Key words: Hematopoietic stem cell transplant; Perianal nursing; Perianal infection rate
