Abstract

Nonprofit management education (NME) has been greatly developed in the last three decades. This paper reviews the researches about NME in the United States from two perspectives: disciplinary perspective and program perspective. Issues studied in the disciplinary level mainly concern the autonomy and distinctiveness of NME, and direct to an ultimate question: Should NME be developed into a new discipline? Studies of NME in program level mainly focus on these issues: 1) Development of NME programs in different degree and non-credit levels. 2) What is the focus of NME programs, generic or specialized? 3) How to construct the curricula? 4) What is and how to measure the impact and effectiveness of NME program? The paper also suggests that the institutionalization of NME is a critical research question for future study.
