Abstract

Considered in this investigation is the dynamic behavior of space flexible probe-cone docking mechanism, in which the soft cone technology is applied. Kane method and Hertz contact theory are used to obtain the governing equations describing the response of the flexible docking mechanism. These equations are then coded into a computer program and solved using fourth-order Runge–Kutta methods. Results of the theoretical mode are found to be in good agreement with the experimental results, and the numerical results obtained from ANSYS/LS-DYNA software. Furthermore, the influence of soft cone parameters on impact process is discussed based on theoretical model systemically.
