Abstract

This article is devoted to the study of clay raw materials of South Kazakhstan region. In particular, the article presents the chemical and granulometric compositions, as well as the physical and technical properties of clays, for determination of a possible ways of using of fusible and bentonite clays of montmorillonite and colloidal composition for the further production of thermal insulating expanded clays. During the research, the selected clay samples were subjected to modern physicochemical studies, in particular chemical, granulometric, scanning electron microscopic, differential thermal and X-ray phase studies. Based on the results of physicochemical studies, it was established that the clay of the Badam deposit is finely dispersed, the sum of the main compounds SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3 is 80.61-84.29% and is represented by a number of minerals - montmorillonite, sodium feldspar and hydromica.
