Abstract

The paper describes the study of insulation materials’ operation life and remaining life. Insulation aging models, which can be implemented to AC insulated cables, are considered. Based on models and previously proposed approach XLPE, EPR, and PVC insulated cables’ operation lives were evaluated. The evaluation was performed using voltage and current monitoring data of the 6 kV cable power transmission line, which is used in the distributive networks in Russia. The air temperature was obtained from the open-source. The results showed the applicability of all models for remaining life evaluation as models gave the same operation life. It can be explained by the same operation lives according to the cables’ parameters. However, in real conditions, the operation lives of listed insulation types can be different because of their dielectric and structural properties.
