Abstract

DC/DC converters are widely used in transport systems such as aircraft power systems, more electric, hybrid and all-electric aircraft and vehicles. LC filters are used at DC/DC converters input and output to smooth ripples in currents and voltages. This paper considers integrated LC components application features in DC/DC converters. The integrated LC component is a new multifunctional integrated electromagnetic component (MIEC). Integrated component use should improve secondary power supplies (SPS) technical and economic performance. In addition, MIEC using effectively accelerates development process, improves manufacturability and reliability, and reduces SPS cost. In many applications, passive electromagnetic elements dimensions precisely determine whole power converter weight and size. Article presents equivalent circuit and parameters estimating results for the simplest MIEC type. As an example, the LM73606 buck converter was modelled using classic base L and C discrete elements, as well as based on MIEС. Obtained results comparison shows that MIEC provides the same converter performance, while estimation of MIEC weight, dimensions and cost suggests that use of integrated components is preferable.
