Abstract

DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF 2010, USA Today (January 7, 2010, p. 6D) highlighted a study of the effects of preoperative patient scrubs on surgical site infection.1 A picture of President Obama greeting folks was immediately beneath the brief article. In many ways, the political energy on health care reform is shedding light on medical and nursing research that may have been ignored otherwise. That is one thing that we can celebrate! This particular study has relevance for surgical patients in general and perianesthesia nurses in particular.
