Abstract

Considerable factual evidence is available pertaining to the education and psychology of children with impaired hearing. This is indicative of the pioneer work which has been accomplished. While much has been achieved, many urgent needs remain. The purpose of this article is to present some of the research findings and needs relative to these children who are auditorially handicapped. Reference cannot be made to all available material. The trend in the education of the deaf and hard of hearing is toward planning pro grams which meet the needs of individual children. This assumes the possi bility of obtaining accurate information with respect to a particular child. Unfortunately the extent of our knowledge and experimentation is such that this is not possible in many instances. However, much can be done in this regard provided the available information from research is effectually applied.
