Abstract

Abstract The Diyarbakır-based Cultural Studies for Peace Association (bakad), which was founded in 2021, has been documenting experiences of social inequality with a view to shedding light on the structural and cultural backdrop of these inequalities. Having an explicit intersectional lens, bakad holds a vision of disseminating the culture of peace, and deepening democratic politics in Turkey. This interview, conducted by Hakan Sandal-Wilson, with Okan Altekin on behalf of bakad, provides us with a social and cultural map of Kurdish LGBTI+ inequality and struggles in Diyarbakır and beyond, and their relationship to the complex dynamics of society, peace, conflict, and politics.
