Abstract

ABSTRACT Complex product systems (CoPS) are high cost, engineering-intensive products, systems, networks and constructs. They are business to business capital goods which form the backbone of modern economy and society. CoPS are now treated as a distinctive research and analysis category. This paper provides a wide-ranging review on current research interests and further research potentials on CoPS and innovation. An operationalized definition of CoPS is provided based on currently studies and knowledge on major characteristics of complex products and systems. Research potentials on organization structure, innovation process, capability building, knowledge management, network collaboration, and government policy are reviewed. An integrated framework is proposed to facilitate understanding of CoPS challenges and research potentials. A special research interest is highlighted on future challenges to CoPS providers in Asian latecomer nations.
