Abstract

Abstract : The ion implantation research and technology transfer workshop brought together a diverse group of academic, industrial and government participants. Several key issues highlighted were: (1) A need exists for new technology transfer infrastructures between universities, research labs and industry. (2) Ion implantation technology has promise for several Army and industry applications because of environmental concerns and technological benefits. (3) The U.S. ion implantation industry is primarily service oriented. (4) The cost of Ion implantation technology could be significantly reduced if larger scale production equipment was available for on-line processing. A need exists in the USA for mechanisms and funds to develop such equipment.
