Abstract

This article reports on a study of noise pollution in the city of Panevezys, Lithuania. The authors conducted research in which the noise levels from street traffic was measured at different times of the day (including nighttime). They compared their actual results with traffic noise level prediction models, finding that the model deviates only up to 10% from the real-world data. They measured noise levels in residential and commercial areas. The authors found that the main cause of noise in the streets is the increasing number of old, poorly-maintained vehicles as well as increased overall traffic. The study also identified which areas of the city have noise levels that have the most impact on inhabitants. The authors conclude that the noise prediction model was reliable and can be used in future studies to predict noise levels in residential areas and at street crossings.
