Abstract

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a long history with its special features in the treatment of dermatoses. In abroad, TCM belongs to alternative medicine or traditional medicine. As a traditional medicine, TCM emphasizes individualized treatment. The differences between the fundamental conceptions of TCM and Western Medicine lead to the misunderstanding of TCM. A series of studies have confirmed the efficacy of TCM in skin disorders. This article is to elucidate the efficacy, mechanism of action and side effects of TCM in the hope that dermatologists will get a better understanding on the therapeutic effect of TCM.
