Abstract

The images captured under fog and haze conditions, due to the scattering of the atmosphere, lead to blurred content and lower contrast, which brings serious impact on the application of traffic system and outdoor vision system. Based on the improved multi-scale Retinex algorithm MSR (Multi-Scale Retinex), a new fog removal method is proposed. This method estimates the luminance component according to the bootstrap filter, and then processes the image according to the adaptive histogram equalization method with limited contrast. Experiments show that the method can effectively remove the fog effect and realize the restoration of color degraded images.
