Abstract

Neuropathic corneal pain is a new and poorly defined disease in the field of ophthalmology. Strong symptoms but a lack of clear clinical signs often make the disease difficult to diagnose and treat. In order to avoid more misdiagnosis in clinical work, we should have a better understanding of the disease. The pathophysiology of neuropathic pain, the underlying cause of the disease, and diagnosis and treatment of neuropathic corneal pain are reviewed. Key words: neuropathic corneal pain; pathophysiology; underlying cause; diagnosis; treatment
