Abstract

In the last eight years the St. John Ambulance Brigade in Victoria, Australia, has developed a new image. Highly trained rescue squads and teams of mobile nurses with specialized equipment form an integral part of the state civil defence disaster scheme. With the cooperation and goodwill of their employers these volunteers are ready to answer a call at any hour of the day or night to rescue trapped, or search for lost persons and to help minimize the effects of injuries caused in accidents.
