Abstract

Ascending paper chromatography of three monossacharides is re-examined using ternary solvent mixtures. These solvents contain water together with a “water-immiscible” organic solvent ( n-butanol, ethyl acetate or cyclohexanol) made into a monophase with one of four mutually miscible liquids (MMLs). The requirements of such MMLs are defined as a consequence.
