Abstract

Some of the common characteristics found in collaborative research environments, which follow typical cycles of data collection and analysis, are discussed and a model for the research cycle is proposed. Next, the requirements for a software system which supports collaborative research environments and the research cycle are presented. As justification for these requirements, experience in constructing and using software which supports groups of collaborative researchers is discussed. Finally, a status report on a next-generation collaborative research system under construction, based on these requirements, is presented. >
