Abstract

ABSTRACTNavy oil pollution control can be divided into open sea and protected water situations. The more rigorous open sea containment requirements are considered in this paper. Containment must be achieved before skimming, removal and other measures can be initiated. The aspects of oil containment considered are spills associated with such ship accidents such as collisions and groundings and the subsequent ship salvage operations in the open sea. The required barrier characteristics and the deployment and recovery thereof are treated.
