Abstract

This article constitutes the second part of « Imaginaires toponymiques: creations pan-europeennes autour de Paris » (Toponymic imaginaries: pan-European creations on Paris), which appeared in La Linguistique, 2009/2. Exploring diachrony as well as synchrony, the present paper focuses on the creative dynamics of Parisian speakers as far as their own city and its various representations are concerned (how they characterize the city as a whole, its streets and monuments). Actually, these creations are manifested mainly through the mechanisms of reanalysis (including folk etymology), metaphor and analytical frozen expressions. As in the previous article, the speakers’ creative process reveals a poetic and humorous dimension.
