Abstract

The article focuses on belletristic historical narratives, especially recorded, historical beautiful literature. From the perspective of learning to think historically the article tries to give an outline of the role of fiction within the culture of history and tries to name different ways of its systematization. Furthermore the relations that overcome the boundaries of the antagonisms fiction – historiography, source – representation of history and directed – undirected learning shall be discussed. Different approaches to fiction and factuality draw the line between fiction books and historiography. Nevertheless, among others, it is scrutinized whether the exclusive recourse of fiction as a historical source is adequate, when fiction is understood as a representative of its time which comes with its own dignity.
