Abstract

Abstract Symbiotic bacteria increasingly are being recognized for their profound and diverse effects on the survival and reproduction of their arthropod hosts. This has increased interest in the potential application of these bacteria in biological control programmes. This chapter provides an overview for one group of these symbiotic bacteria, i.e. 'reproductive parasites', and addresses recent developments regarding their use in control of pests (including plant insect pests, public health pests and disease vectors).
