Abstract

egg size, neonate size, and fecundity pattern are not known, the present data suggest that P. m. ruthveni lays the largest eggs, but the smallest clutches, among large North American colubrid snakes and hatches at the largest size of any North American snake yet reported. I thank the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries for permitting fieldwork and the collection of specimens and R. L. Semlitsch, W. H. N. Gutzke, C. R. Beck, J. B. Murphy, and one anonymous reviewer for commenting on an earlier version of the manuscript.
