Abstract

Personal health behaviors and outcomes are deeply influenced by context. The contemporary United States does not provide the conditions for optimal reproductive health. Challenges that women face in terms of family planning, access to abortion, and safe pregnancy and delivery are best understood from a reproductive justice framework. Reproductive justice frames the issue as more than individual choice, and simultaneously considers race, class, and social location, along with gender. It employs a human rights framework that promotes social justice.
