Abstract
To the Editor.— Being avid collectors of reprints, we thought that the information set out in the Table would be useful for others with a similar hobby. The study was done during a three-year period and included reprint requests from all specialties of medicine. One of us (D.J.C.) is also an amateur radio operator, and the pattern of cards received after radio contact is similar to that of reprints. The percentage of reprints honored correlates inversely with countries' rates of inflation. Statistical tests of significance were not performed, thus avoiding a calamity in international scientific communication. However, one point is clear; obviously, the Japanese have achieved technological success without relinquishing their ancient claim to world leadership in good manners.
