Abstract

In a previous study, tobacco budworm, Helios this viruses (F.), larvae were selected with a permethrin-chlordimeform mixture (1:1 wt/wt) at the LED80 By the F2 generation, the degree of resistance to the mixture was scarcely different from levels established in the F1 generation. To confirm the presence of the gene(s) responsible for resistance the permethrin-chlordimeform strain was then divided into two groups: the first received permethrin-chlordimeform selection pressure, whereas the second group received only permethrin pressure. This permethrin pressure produced a 6-fold increase in resistance levels in the latter group in seven additional generations. This study proved the gene(s) for resistance in the permethrin-chlordimeform strain were present, and the use of a permethrin-chlordimeform mixture may block resistance development.
