Abstract
After decades of integration studies in the AEC industry, the need for the co-existence of various systems integration strategies is well recognized by researchers in AEC. One of the key theoretic challenges to the hybrid integration strategy is the feasibility and the effectiveness of the dichotomy of application semantics and contextual semantics. As the first step to answer the challenge, this paper has developed BNF (Backus-Baur Form) representations of semantic mappings based on identified heterogeneity. The BNF representations, including major definitions of access to data sources, semantically identical objects, semantically not similar objects, composition and arithmetic mapping, are transformed into XML format and validated by a case study.
