Abstract

Phenylthioanthraquinone has a wide color selectivity and excellent photo stability for three-layer guest-host liquid crystal displays (LED) with full bright color images towards a novel LED development of having no RGB color filter and polarizing plate. In the design of the refinery process of phenylthioanthraquinone using supercritical carbon dioxide, the phenylthioanthraquinone solubility in supercritical carbon dioxide is a fundamental property. We measured the solubilities of phenylthioanthraquinone in supercritical carbon dioxide at the temperature ranges of 323.15 K, 353.15 K, and 383.15 K and over the pressures of 12.5 MPa–25.0 MPa in a flow-type apparatus. The experimental results were compared with those estimated by the regular solution model with Hansen solubility parameter. The solubility parameter of phenylthioanthraquinone was determined from the Hansen sphere plot, which was made by dissolving phenylthioanthraquinone into 55 different kinds of organic solvents at 323.15 K and under ambient pressure. We examined the temperature and density dependence of the solubility parameters in the representation of phenylthioanthraquinone solubility of in supercritical carbon dioxide.
