Abstract

The increasing popularity of polygamy among people in society has inspired many production houses to take it onto teather screen. One of such movies is “Surga yang Tak Dirindukan”. The aim of this research, thus, is to analyze the representation of polygamy in dialogues and scenes of “Surga yang Tak Dirindukan” using a combination of qualitative-descriptive methods and Roland Barthes’s semiotics model. Audiovisual observations are applied to collect data needed for analisys. Findings reveal that representations of polygamy are found in this movie. The movie of “Surga yang tak dirindukan” tells a story of a woman struggling to deal with psychological conflict arising from polygamy in her household. The moral of this movie is that deep understanding of ikhlas (sincerity) can be applied to solve everyday problems related to psychological conflicts optimally.
