Abstract

Bi and Bi1−xSbx nanowire arrays have attracted much attention as promising low-dimensional thermoelectric materials. Transport measurements have provided experimental evidence for enhanced thermoelectric performance. Good agreement between theoretical modeling and experimental results not only shows promise for future developments, but also advances our knowledge about low-dimensional transport phenomena. The research on segmented nanowires, which consist of a superlattice of quantum dots with different constituents, opens up a new direction to further enhance thermoelectric performance beyond simple one-dimensional systems by selectively scattering phonons rather than electrons.
